about

In the 18 year history of The Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, formerly known as the Arts Magnet High School, one word stands out that describes this outstanding educational institution; "consistency". If you had the time to listen to our last eleven albums or read articles about the school that have appeared in almost every major jazz and general music educational periodical you would come away with the sam conclusion.
Our secret is three fold. We have had a consistent student body who has worked hard to attain a high level of excellence. A consistent faculty who, over the past 18 years has stayed with the game plan and has run its course to the end of each school year with dedication to the institution and its student body. And lastly, we have had a consistent administration which has supported every effort on behalf of our faculty and students for the goof of the program.
The results have been amazing with 62 Down Beat Magazine Dee Bee awards in every category available to our school, as well as 12 alumni on major labels making music history partly from the knowledge they have gained while attending the institution.
The Booker T. Washington HSPVA is a life changing experience for all of us who meet here each day, passing on information about the music industry. I have been most fortunate to experience this wonderful school the past 11 years and have learned that because of our consistency we are succsesful. the "team" effort has been the force and we will continue to strive for the same consistency during the next 11 years. Listen, enjoy and remember, "consistency" has been our secret because many have cared to make it that way.
